As a true nerd, I have a habit of naming my characters after scientists and mathematicians.
When I started my hunter alt, I was faced with a new challenge. I had to name a pet, as well. My dilemma was to find a name that was suitable, without denigrating the name of a respected intellectual.
My pet, being a boar, lent itself to the perfect name….

Probably true, but obvious is better for those who are not quite on a first name basis with the great scientists of history.

I’ll be completely honest – despite playing for four years, I couldn’t tell you what ANY of the racials are. They are relatively minor, and a complete non-factor in my choice of races. I’ve never been bothered to care about them.
OK, I think I used the Draenei racial once, maybe.
Its a passive ability so you don’t have to actually do anything. 5% increase in pet damage. Its a nice help for BM where your pet is your dps and not sucky for MM and SV where the pet holding aggro tends to be a bit rough.
I have an Imp called Karpit. Awesome, neh?
Well in honor of the prevailing misconception that all hunters are retards and incorporating Ham from Hamacus (My very first toon)my Hunter is appropriately named Hamtard. To make it easy I named my boar Boartard, my bear Beartard, my Wolf…well you get the picture.
I am sure none of these names are approved by the Hunter Universal Naming Totalitarians and I anxiously await the incoming head slap 🙂

On my server it seems every other hunter that has a pet gorilla its always named either “Butscratcher” or “Stinkfinger” or “Banannas”
my hunter pet is “Threefivenine”

Best combo I ever saw was a hunter named “Sigried” with a pure white tiger named “Roykiller”.
My croc is named “Bootsy” and my Gorilla is named “Tyrone” and the Rare tallstrider from Mulgure, well his name was CordonPink to go along with my hunter PrimeRib (tauren).
Had a hunter named veep with pet named prez back when Cheney was in the news
