This is part of a series describing rogue tactics for the bosses in Naxxramas. The focus is on the 10-man version of the fights, since that’s what most people will be running. If you have suggestions for alternate strategies, or if I say something that you disagree with, please put it in the comments.
These are not meant to be full raid strategy guides. They are written to describe the role of rogues (or other melee dps) during the encounters. For full strategy guides refer to Bosskillers or WoWWiki.
After the Spider Wing, the next step is most likely the Plague Quarter, and the first boss there is Noth the Plaguebringer.
This fight is hard on healers (actually on decursers) but pretty simple on melee dps. For the most part, you’re just going to attack Noth when he’s there, and kill adds when he’s not.
At the start of the fight, Noth is alone. The tank will pick him up, and with TotT you’ll jump right in. Shortly thereafter, he will summon some adds. Its easiest if your off-tank can just pick them up and hold them for a while, leaving you to focus on Noth.
The important part of this fight is dispelling the curse that Noth repeatedly applies to random players. The curse needs to be removed within 10 seconds or it will do shadow damage to the cursed player and most of the raid as well. Rogues can Cloak the curse off if needed, but hopefully you have a decurser in your raid so you won’t have to. (on the 25-man version, that curse can wipe the raid… on the 10-man version it is possible to heal through the damage)
In the 25-man version be aware! Noth blinks periodically and it is an aggro wipe. When you see the blink, make sure that you pop your TotT so you don’t grab aggro when you start attacking again. He also applies Cripple, which slows you… that can be Cloaked off as well. (in the 10-man version he does not Blink or Cripple)
Every 110 seconds Noth teleports up to the balcony. During this time your raid will clean up the adds and take down new adds that spawn. Just single-target dps them down. After 70 seconds of that Noth comes back down and you start over.
It is important that rogues stay on Noth whenever he is on the ground. Each time he teleports up to the balcony, the summoned adds are a little more numerous and tougher. You really want to kill Noth before his second teleport. Constant dps on him is key.
When the 10-man version of Noth dies, he can drop the Spaulders of Resumed Battle, which is a nice shoulder slot item.
On the 25-man version he has a huge loot table. He can drop Fool’s Trial – a very nice neck item. He can also drop Angry Dread for the mace rogues lurking out there, and Strong-Handed Ring which is a good piece as well. He can have Spinning Fate, one of the few thrown weapons you can find. And finally look for Thrusting Bands for your wrists.
