Reliquary of Souls is pretty

Yes, our band of casual buffed-up-post-patch raiders got all the way to Mother Shahraz in Black Temple this weekend.

This was the first time in my entire 2.5+ years of playing WoW that I got to experience the amazement of seeing content that most players have not seen. The explorer in me was blown away by Reliquary of Souls. It was beautiful and different and had an epic feel to it that most giant-sized-orc-type bosses don’t have. I hope that a lot of raiders took the past few weeks to see parts of the game that were closed to them before.

Reflecting on the past three weeks –

Pushing ourselves to do high end content was the best thing our guild could have done. When we made the choice to use our new patch-given superpowers and do T6 stuff, there were a lot of doubters. But now that we are 3/5 in Hyjal and 6/9 in Black Temple, the pride beams off of our casual raiders like a pally bubble.

By doing this, we got a chance to challenge ourselves. True, we just overpowered Naj’entus and dps’ed him like crazy while healers spammed group heals. Yeah, Shade of Akama was so easy that when someone accidentally started it before we had a chance to explain the fight, we still one-shotted him. But we couldn’t just overpower Bloodboil. Or Reliquary. We had to learn positioning rotations on Bloodboil, and had to learn to manage position, interrupts, and dps on Reliquary.

Getting that far made us feel like legitimate raiders. The snobbish elite will point out how nerfed everything is and discount our accomplishments. That doesn’t matter. We feel like we accomplished something and that’s what counts. There is palpable excitement going into Northrend now about our future in raiding.

BUT we are not ready to go anymore “hardcore” than we are now. This weekend, we did the first six BT bosses on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, when we were poised to go back in and take shots at Mother Shahraz, the interest just wasn’t there. And that’s OK. Two long raid nights in a row is all that our guild can handle. Knowing that is important going forward into Wrath.

I’ve said this in at least two previous posts, but it warrants repeating – thanks again, Blizzard, for opening up this content to casual raiders.

Personal downside – over the past three weeks we have killed eleven T6 level bosses (three in Hyjal, six in BT, Naj’entus and Supremus twice each). I got nothing even though I am at the top of our DKP list. There were simply no drops for me – no daggers, no dps leather, nothing. There was one dps ring, but it was only a small upgrade for me so I let a fury warrior take it. So all that DKP is going to waste, as we are resetting our loot system for Northrend. 😦

Don’t let ANYONE tell you what you did isn’t an accomplishment – it’s a big deal! Congratulations!

Congrats! Reliquary is still an entertaining fight even post-nerf. We never got past Teron pre-3.0.2, and finally downed Illidan for the first (and last) time last Tuesday.

I share your pain ref T6. We’ve been raiding 4/5 MH for the past 10 weeks, and clearing to Teron every week, downed Mother twice, Council once and Illidan once, and all I have to show for it is these crappy T6 gloves… Heh… reminds me of a T-shirt slogan. So, 10 weeks of 3-5 nights/week raiding and I’ve one item which represented a 20 spell hit upgrade… which will be worthless on Thursday when levelling up in Northrend.
