So Derence (tankadin) hit 60 this weekend. I guess that was a big deal, once upon a time…
We got a group together to go into Ramparts. This was my first time tanking an instance that was “at my level.” We went in, and did the first few pulls. I tanked two or three at a time. After those pulls, I congratulated our resto shaman on his healing, because my life never went below about 80%. He told me that he hadn’t even healed me – he was dpsing since I wasn’t taking any damage.

We proceeded to blow through Ramparts. All of us are new to our respective alt toons, so there is a lot of learning going on. I had trouble regaining aggro if a mob got pulled off of me while my taunt was on cooldown. Our mage tended to sheep mobs who were standing right next to me, so my Consecrate would break the sheep. But the only wipes were on bad pulls where we got 6 or 8 at once. Everything was smooth… until Nazan.
I thought he would be easy too. Then he hit me with his fire breath and took me from 40% to zero in one second. So we went in and tried again. Same result. We tried a few more times, and eventually had to enlist the help of a level 70 druid with more than twice my health to come in and tank him for us. I could not survive all of that fire damage.
My only fire resistance is the paladin aura, which gives you 50. I looked around for other plate armor that has fire resist on it. There is quite a bit that exists in the game, but at my level it is all Molten Core stuff. I’m not interested in paying huge gold for mats farmed from MC, and I’m also not interested in grinding rep and running BRD over and over to make the Dark Iron armor pieces.
So as of now, this is actually something that I feel I cannot tank. I am totally new to this tanking thing, so maybe I am missing something. Suggestions are welcome.
